"Sharing One skin"

Armstrong, Jeanette. “Sharing One Skin: The Okanagan Community,” in Jerry Mander and Edward

Goldsmith (eds), The Case Against the Global Economy. San Francisco, CA, Sierra Club Books, 1996. Pp 460-470.

In the first research login talked about how the okanagan and their people are different and alike at the same time. They have their differences and similarities with other people in the world, they talk about how they feel about humans, and how they are the main and important thing in our world. It also explains the different types of spirits, and many other things about the place, and people. There are many things you as that person have to take control of. You are incharge of many things.

“IT’S CALLED A GENOCIDE:” THE STRENGTH OF LANGUAGE IN U.S. GOVERNMENT APOLOGIES TO NATIVE AMERICANS”

In this article i have read about the ways cultural survival happened in the United States, and how the America was sincerely sorry for the native americans because of how they were treated, and also how they were not acknowledged in the United States, it talked about how the Native Americans were a big party of this state, and how many states thought and were thinking about making the native americans extinct. They wanted to also do this in their state because they felt like they were a big part that was in theri way, and they felt that they needed to get rid of them. But soon after that they felt so bad about what the government hasn't done, and how many states treated the native Americans. We as native people should overcome this and shouldnt be treated this way because we were here before anyone else.

“THE FUTURE OF INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE RIGHTS”

In this article I have read about how the United States and other people have helped the native people with their languages, and some other ways they tried helping us. They also explained ways they can have strategies on ways they can help the native people with their native languages. They also stated that it is important for us to keep and make some ways they can help native languages.

“Rethinking Native American language revitalization

In this first article I have read it was very interesting and was very meaningful , because it explained about the importance of language loss and how communities are fighting to keep their natrive languages alive, and trying to teach it to their community members, and their younger kids.

Also they are explaining what some schools are doing about their languages, and how they feel about teaching them in schools, and if they will affect the schools learning program.

“Senate passes Esther's Martinez Native Languages Preservation Act”

In this article I have read about how the senate has passed the Esther Martinez native languages preservation act, and it mainly talked about how they were setting up this act about the Native American language, and that it would be in part in 2023. It also explained about how many programs there are that will help people. In this article it has made me feel very curious about what is going on because it explained many things that they are trying to do about their languages, and that this act was passed and would be going in 2023, I'm wondering on why they are waiting this long to do it.

“Canada”

After learning about the community about Canada and what they do in their culture i learned quite a bit about them, in their native communities in Canada, i learned that they are having some trouble and difficulties dealing with housing, employment, education, health, justice and family and cultural growth, all these issues came from the government, and also basically where they all live. Some of the events that lead up to these issues, had to do with what they do in their native and traditional ways, and how they are being treated. My topic of my community is addressing all of its problems that have to deal with the language, and how we are fighting and dealing with some ways of fixing and regaining the strength to teach and learn the language. This culture is almost basically dealing with the same problems that we are dealing with in many of our communities. This part of the native people have many different and interesting traditional things they do that I would love to learn about.

New Zealand

After learning a bit about these peoples culture, and some of the problems they are dealing with in their communities, I learned that they are dealing with Racism, Pollution, and poverty and also education. They are dealing with these issues in their communities because they have nothing they can do to fight against it, but they can show how they are being treated and some of the other ways they can fight and fix some other problems they are dealing with in their native communities. They are dealing with a bit different problems from what we are dealing with, and mine is mainly in native language preservation, and from us keeping our language from dying.

After reading this and learning about their culture and their problems in their community it made me feel kind of upset about what they are dealing with, and also they are trying some ways they can try and fight this. This also made me kind of upset because we are doping the same thing but with different problems.
