5/19 Week Sixteen: Anger in the Body and the Brain

It is Week 16! Yay!

Hello Students,

We understand that our Topics summer classes have reached capacity. We recommend that you either place yourself on the waitlist or enroll in our "Back to Basics" class, which is currently open.

Unfortunately, we cannot increase the class size or override the waitlist at this time. When summer begins, students on the waitlist will receive a permission code, which will allow them to enroll in the class.

In the meantime, please sign up for available classes or add yourself to the waitlist. You have the flexibility to attend any session, so enrolling in another class can still fit into your schedule if your preferred class is full.

For more information on how to add your name to a waitlist, please refer to this link: [How to Add Your Name to a Waitlist]

Last week, we learned about the importance of incorporating a variety of plant foods into our diet to boost phytonutrients, such as polyphenols, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation. These foods include vegetables (purple and red), fruits (berries, grapes), nuts, seeds, beans, lentils (including soy), herbs, spices, and dark chocolate.

All of us know the feeling of anger.  Our muscles tense up and inside our brains, neurotransmitters known as catecholamines are released to give us a burst of energy that can last for several minutes. Anger can be a positive and useful emotion if it is appropriately expressed. In this lesson we will explore the brain and body physiology of anger, the benefits and risks of anger, and strategies for mastering it.
