2/18 Week Four: Attending to Attention with a Focusing on Focusing

“I don't have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness - it's right in front of me if I'm paying attention and practicing gratitude” – Brene Brown

Hello it's Week 4! We are reminding you that there will be no class this Monday February 19th, for Washington Day.

Students, if you received an email from Professor Erika regarding BrainHQ licenses, the purpose of the note is to ensure that only those enrolled for Spring 2024 are using a BrainHQ. If you receive this note and are enrolled in Spring 24 or believe you are enrolled, please email us. Please note that our lists may be partially up to date. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Questions about BrainHQ?

Last Week: Coping with Changes (Stress and the Brain)

Last week in class, we delved into the concept that life is inherently characterized by change. From shifts in our work and relationships to fluctuations in our physical and mental well-being, as well as the emergence of new events in our local and global communities, change is constant. While you can't evade change, you can cultivate a resilient approach to life, viewing challenges as opportunities for personal growth and flourishing.

This Week:  Attending to Attention with a Focus on Focusing

This week we will examine attention and focus on the brain, recognize the symptoms of a lack of attention or focus, reflect on causes, and share strategies for maximizing our ability to focus and pay attention.  We will also consider attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and its prevalence in today’s society.
