Effective the 2023/24 school year, all students working toward a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (“Dogwood Diploma”), in English or French, must successfully complete at least 4 credits in Indigenous-focused coursework. This requirement applies to students in B.C. public, independent, First Nations, and offshore schools. There is no change to the total number of credits required to graduate, which remains at 80.
Long term planning to think about:
Be sure you have at least 4 credits in Indigenous-focused coursework by the end of Grade 12
English First Peoples 10 (counts as both English and Indigenous Grad requirement)
English First Peoples 11 (counts as both English and Indigenous Grad requirement)
English First Peoples 12 (counts as both English and Indigenous Grad requirement)
BC First Peoples 12 (counts as both Social Studies and Indigenous Grad requirement)
** If a student wants to complete the requirement in grade 10, they can choose EFP 10 for their grade 10 year ( this would satisfy both English 10 and Indigenous Grad Requirements) .
**If a student wants to complete the requirement in grade 11 and/or 12, they can choose EFP 11 or EFP 12 or BC First Peoples 12.
