Directing and Script Development 11 is an introductory course in the basics of scriptwriting and directing. A genuine interest in working with actors is a must. Directors will find it beneficial to have some experience on stage, although a genuine interest in learning the skills quickly will suffice. The directing students will learn terminology, stage pictures, script analysis and the audition and rehearsal process. They will be introduced to the basics of lighting and sound design. Writing practice scripts will lead to a fully-edited 10-minute play for an evening production. The Grade 12 level course will allow the student to choose an emphasis on either directing or scriptwriting, although both components will be included. An emphasis in scriptwriting will include a finished, fully-edited one-act play. An emphasis on directing will include analysis and directing a published play for the stage.
