The curriculum for Specialized Science 12 covers big ideas from all major science disciplines: chemistry, biology, physics and earth sciences. The format of the course is designed to provide flexibility to students, and promote inquiry and exploration into chosen topics. The focus will be on curricular competencies and scientific research skills including planning and collaborating, questioning and predicting, conducting experimentation, processing and analyzing data, evaluating, applying and innovating. Students will develop, design and execute a scientific study in an area of personal interest to them. The results of each study will be prepared and presented in a scientific research paper as their final project. It is strongly recommended that students have completed or are concurrently enrolled in a science 11 course. While this new course will meet the senior science requirement for graduation, it is important to check specific entrance requirements for post-secondary institutions as this course may not meet their individual program specifications. This class meets once a week, after school on Wednesdays for the full school year. (Offered outside the timetable).
