This course aims to enable learners to understand and respect the traditions, values and beliefs of First Nations peoples within historical, contemporary, and future contexts. Students will:
examine the traditional place names and territories in British Columbia
examine the history of First Peoples in BC
examine First Peoples resistance to colonialism and the revitalization of culture
explore the art, stories, and cultures of First Peoples in British Columbia
examine the goals of reconciliation and the Universal Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
