Self Portrait

The subject of my creation was my self. The setting is in spain where I went on a trip with Duncan and some friends. The work was made completely out of charcoal. I used different blending techniques to make sure that I could get the correct tone of darks. I chose to create this specific artwork because I thought that it had a good mixture of darks and lights and also that I would be able to make the drawing actually look like me and not some type of freak.

I used silhouette lighting to make my face stand out compared to the background and that Would make the viewers eyes focus on to the main subject which was my face. My project evolved from a basic grid into a fully covered grid of charcoal that results into a face thereby creating the self portrait.

The meaning behind the artwork is to show that anyone can complete a self portrait no matter how good or bad it is and that a little bit of time, Patience and focus can result in a decent self portrait. The reason I said decent was because my self portrait was by far not the best one in the class. But in my opinion I don’t think it was the worst one either. My project relates to my life because as you may be able to figure out I am wearing this face every single day and that I am the one who lives with it not you. That's why it relates to my life. One thing that bothers me is that the glasses are not symmetrical and that they are 2 different sizes.
