Duck Stamp Project

The subject of my creation was the ducks and the setting was a background or the setting was on the rocks by the ocean. The artwork was made with oil pastels and that allowed me to easily blend the colors to form one unified color. I chose to create this specific artwork because we had the option of either creating a duck stamp project like this one or creating a color gridded project where I would have had to blend colors into different shades.

I used informal balance by adding another duck to balance out the page of duck to water ratio and so there wasn’t one duck on one side of the page and nothing on the other side. My project evolved from just one bird to a bird cut out and placed onto a background but finally I finished with adding another bird to fill up more white space.

The meaning behind my artwork is to raise awareness about national game conservation which is where the country is trying to raise awareness for these animals and are trying to raise money for people not to be going out and killing all of the species. The project relates to my life because every year I see ducks in the water or walking on grass and this whole project is about ducks. I think my artwork could be better if I added more color to the water so there wasn’t so much white space. I also thing it could be better if I had done more of a gestural movement to the water and also blended darks and lights into it.
