The subject of my creation is a puffin. My work was made using 18 gage wire for the frame of the beak and the face was made using cardboard and paint. I chose to create this specific artwork because I wanted to originally make a boat but a friend told my that my boat looked like a beak so I created a puffin out of it.
I used informal balance by adding different amounts of black and white to either side of the beak it created informal balance making sure that the puffin looked natural and not perfect. My project evolved from a spool of wire to a a cardboard puffin.
The meaning behind my artwork is to challenge myself to create a sculpture of a Puffin which is almost a recreating of my beautiful oops because it wasn’t my original idea but I made it work. My project relates to my life because I have been skiing for over a decade. I think my artwork could be stronger if I had spent more time on it and if I was able to get the puffin's beak to have the white markings more white and less brown.
