A Thing I Despise
Size:
Chalk pastel on toned paper
For this prompt, which was something I despise, I was originally planning to draw orange juice, because I hate orange juice. But we didn't have any orange juice in the house, so I settled for Moxie, which I hate, just not as much as orange juice. I used chalk pastels for a medium, because I wanted to limit the amount of detail I would be able to put in the piece, or else it would have taken me forever to finish. The only problem with chalk pastels is that the color gets all over the place after it's been put on the paper, and I tried to spray it in place with hairspray. The hairspray didn't work and it left dark splotches on the pastel.
Chicken Coop
Size:
Colored pencil on toned paper
For this piece, I decided to draw my chicken coop because it was there in my yard and I wanted to draw it. I also wanted to challenge myself by drawing the woods in the background. I used colored pencils and toned paper, which was a good call because the colors were easier to blend and overlay, and it was easy to add the highlights and the white around the edge of the coop. The one thing I would fix is the shadows inside the coop. It looks a little splotchy and I would make them smoother. I don't normally drawing buildings, so this one was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I liked how it turned out.
Zoomed in Mouth
Size:
Graphite and white colored pencil on toned paper
For a zoomed in part of my body, I went with my mouth, because it was easy to look at in a mirror and I like drawing mouths. I went with loose shading so I wouldn't spend hours working on every little detail. This is my favorite out of the three drawings, because it was in my comfort zone and it came out really nicely.
