The Lady of the Woods

Chalk pastel on toned paper

I wanted to go in a bit of a different direction for this piece. I wanted to be more creative than the first one, which I'm happy I did. I used chalk pastel on toned paper in order to make adding values easier. Because the chalk pastels I have at home are very chunky, it was hard to include details especially on the eyes and nose. The white was also difficult because the color would practically disappear when blended into the paper. One thing that really bugs me is the forest that's supposed to be in her mouth. It's not really clear, because the chalk pastels are really hard to use when trying to do small details. I should have done that part in acrylic paint. What I do like is the vibe I captured in the piece. I wanted to do a foggy, cloudy looking fall day with colorful leaves, and an overall peaceful but kind of somber feeling, which I think I achieved.
