Sustained Investigation #9

Sylvester and His Many Friends

5" x 4.5"

Acrylic on canvas paper

For this project, instead of human anatomy being in nature, I wanted the human anatomy elements to be the nature. In order to do this, I put little faces in the tree, little hands in the leaves and eyes in the background. I was going to put feet for the roots, but that wasn't working out. I was also planning to paint this piece realistically but then I decided to take a more expressionistic approach to accentuate the strangeness of the piece. I think I achieved my goal of added more than one element of human anatomy and really combined it with the elements of nature I'm trying to portray. If I can change one thing, I would add more of the tree people, in the foreground and some in the background to create a little more depth.
