Three Material Drawing

For my three material drawing I chose a photo that I really liked and that had a wide rang or value from black to white. To begin, I turned the photo black and white and printed it out then gridded it with a 1" x 1" grid. On a larger piece of paper, I drew a 1.5" x 1.5" grid because my goal was to accurately enlarge the picture with my drawing. I first got the basic outline of everything. The picture is a cropped picture of me drinking a soda at and outdoor restaurant in Bar Harbor, Maine. I created this drawing by focusing on each square of the grid, and only drawing what I saw in each square rather than the drawing as a whole. I started with charcoal in the top left corner to create a blurry look while still getting the dark values of the background. I used graphite for almost all the rest of the drawing except for the label and logo on the cup I was sipping out of. My smoothly blending and adding plenty of highlights, I was able to capture the smooth and shiny texture of the table. Also, I used highlight and shadows to make the shirt I was wearing look like soft fabric.
