Platters

Continuing on with our soft slab construction projects, I created a small platter with the intention to use it as a jewelry holder. To create this sun shaped platter, I used soft slab construction. I rolled out the thinnest slab I could, then dropped it on the small circled form to create the dip. I used a needle tool to cut out the sun shape, then smoothed out the edges. I slipped and scored three feet to the bottom. When creating this platter I had to keep in mind the amount of space I have on my dresser and the way it would look among my other items such as candles and jewelry holders and such. I also wanted to use colors that would brighten up the space. As this project developed I realized that I made the slab too thin, and would have had an easier time creating this platter, had I used a thicker slab. Because it was so thin, it was very susceptible to tearing while I was working with it, or cracking once dry. Also, when I attached the feet, they bumped up the platter. I am most proud of my ability to do this project in an efficient manner. If I were to change something I would use a thicker slab and be more creative with my design.
