This is a split work of a drawing of a flower going into a flower design. The bottom portion is the base of the flower in a pot. The top portion is three sunflowers in front of a background with several peepholes allowing you to see the top of the flower from the bottom half. This connects the two halves while having color in one and only ink in the other. I chose to draw a flower because I wanted to use ink and I have a lot of practice drawing flowers and plants with that material.

For this project, I used graphite, a ruler, a circle stencil, Micron drawing pens of several widths, and Prismacolor colored pencils.

I started this project by choosing two squares from my Elements and Principles of Design graphic organizer. I chose two that I felt I could make into strong works of art and that could connect with each other because both included flowers. For the bottom portion, I drew a flower pot with the stem of a flower coming out of it using a Micron pen. I focused on creating value to add depth to the drawing while keeping my pen movements quick and gestural. Moving on to the top half, I stenciled out three circles and added triangles for petals to make it look like a sun. I used Prismacolor pencils to give it color. I chose to do the three sunflowers to create shape and balance in the design. Then I was stumped. I had no idea how I was going to make an ink drawing of a single flower connect into a colored design of three flowers. I ended up taking inspiration from another classmate's artwork. She had drawn rectangles with different sections of her face in them. I incorporated this idea into my work by making several "peepholes" through the white background behind the sunflowers to reveal the top of the flower stemming from the pot. I extended the stem through the border to make it appear as though it's going behind the top rectangle. I finished by coloring in the blue sky seen through some of the holes and colored the flower pink. My next steps for this project could be to make the background look like a wall to better the allusion that the rectangles are peepholes.
