Modified Contour Drawing

Contour Line Drawings

Using the contour line technique we focused on with our blind contour drawings, I drew my left hand holding a flower. By using line, I created the shape of my hand and the object I held. As my project evolved, I was careful to make sure I was getting all the details of the hand and flower. Once i achieved the basic form of my hand, I began to add value to my drawing, making the form appear more 3D and detailed. I chose to use a flower for my object because is was what I had at hand while creating my drawing. If I were to change something I would not have added shading to my drawing. For our summative, we drew our shoes from three different angels using contour line. Using pencil I drew my gym shoe from three different views, top, front, and side just by looking at it and drawing what i saw. By using a thicker/heavier line where the shoe curved, I created depth to the shoe drawings. As my project evolved, I realized that I had misunderstood the assignment. I had added shading, not knowing that the assignment was contour line. Because of this I had to go back and erase all of the shading, leaving only the basic form of the shoe. I chose to draw my white gym shoe because I wore them almost every day and I had had them for a long time. Also, they're pretty worn out, creased, and dirty, so it added a small challenge to creating an accurate contour drawing of the shoe. I am most proud of the front view of the shoe. I feel that this was probably the hardest angle of the gym shoe to draw, and when I achieved my goal of making it look as accurate as possible, I was very satisfied and happy with the outcome. I struggled with getting the size of one part of the shoe to be accurately to scale with the other parts of the shoe. I overcame this struggle by focusing on the basic shapes of the shoe and the negative space in between to make it as accurate as possible. In the future, I would pay better attention to what I'm being asked to do, so that I don't make a mistake such as giving a drawing value when it's not supposed to be shaded.
