Ceramics I

1. I am most proud of my Soft Slab Construction project. Using this technique, I created two mugs and a platter. I am most proud of my star mug because the inverted handle created a challenge for me, yet I was able to come away with a smooth, well constructed result. In addition, the glazing on this mug looked as planned. From this project I learned the benefits of being able to control the consistency of thickness of the clay, and how it can affect the final product. i.e. trying to build off of a thin sheet of clay, commonly results in many cracks in either the molding or firing stage. I also learned that patience is key.

Especially with ceramics, the amount of concentration and time and technique that goes into creating pottery is incredible. After researching different artists for my Art History Research project and my Artist Inspired project, I was left in awe at the amount of devotion of time these artists give to their work. The technique and intricacy of some of the pieces I looked at was insane. (...)

3. I do not have any recommendations for how this class could be improved. With plenty of demos and help along the way I found it easy to understand the assignment and was provided plenty of class time to work and ask questions/get advice when needed. I had fun and it was a great leaning experience.
