Mixed Media Photo-Realistic Drawing

.) The subject of my creation is the oceanic view at the KOA Campground in Bar Harbor, Maine.

.) I used three different art supplies to make this drawing: graphite, ink and charcoal. I also used erasers to make the clouds and used a blending cloth, as well as ink pens and paint brushes.

.) I chose to create this mixed media drawing on Bar Harbor because I liked the scale of grey and black that the picture gave me. It was also interesting to put my mind at work creating the clouds because normally I would use white to create the clouds, but this time I used an eraser to sketch out the clouds.

.) I used shading and and blending in pretty much everything. It was really important to shade the charcoal for the water and sky, and if I wanted to the sky to be darker I needed to add more charcoal and then blend it again.

.) From the beginning the artwork started as just one big grey landscape with nothing in it, but then once I added ink and lightened some areas objects started to form.

.) The meaning behind the artwork is that you can't just draw an object and have it be realistic, it takes much more detail like different ranges of color and shading to make it realistic.

.) If I could change anything it probably would be to pay more detail to the tree line.
