Oil Pastel Color Study

.) The subject of this piece of artwork is my sister Alexa eating a vanilla ice cream on main street of Bar Harbor. I chose this drawing because I thought it was really interesting and had lots of different colors to work with. It also challenged me with all the different skin tones in the picture.

.) I created this piece of artwork using different colored oil pastels, a guided image and paper, and a tortilan. First we chose a picture and then created a 1cm by 1cm chart over both the image and a new piece of paper. Then we used many layers of basic colors to blend and get the right shade we wanted.

.) I chose to create this specific piece because this unit we were focusing on color matching and blending. Before we haven't been using much color in our units, and now we are stepping it up a notch and experimenting with color which can be really tricky.

.) Showcased in my artwork you can see the techniques of blending and burnishing, as well as color matching.

.) My project evolved from the beginning, where it was just a gridded picture and piece of paper, to a recreation of that page using many different layers of oil pastels.

.) I think the overall meaning behind the artwork was that there is more to just a scene then basic colors, its many different colors mixed and matched to create the perfect combination and the class was trying to get a grasp on that.

.) If I were to do anything different with my artwork it would probably be to pick a more close up image, I feel like her facial features just got blended out and I really wanted them to predominantly stan out more.
