Technology
This section includes VET as well as non-VET subjects. At Year 10, you can elect to study a VET subject - either semester-based (Building & Construction or Automotive), or full-year for other VET subjects.

Selection into VET courses at Year 10 is limited. You will need a good GPA and possibly a recommendation from the teacher taking the subject. If the class fills, you will be placed on a waiting list.
Pre-requisites for all VET subjects is to have a laptop that you will bring to every class, and for Trade subjects you must have a trade uniform.

You can gain a lot of satisfaction from making something that works well, that solves a problem or meets a need. In Technology, you get the ‘hands on’ experience of ‘making or doing’ and gaining the knowledge and skills to produce quality objects.
As Technology is widely used in society you will have the opportunity to use a range of equipment and resources.
For example you could:
• Process data with a computer
• Reshape wood with tools
• Mix ingredients using a food processor or blender
• Model everyday appliances using electronic materials Technology Units

Year 10 HOSPITALITY & CATERING (Exploring Special Events)
This course has an additional materials cost
Hospitality & Catering provides an introduction to catering for groups of people for different special events and functions.
You will learn how to use commercial equipment, follow kitchen processes, present food, design meals and menus and style food for photography:
Functions will include breakfast, high tea, cocktail events and other social gatherings.
Assessment will include:
• Food presentation and food styling
• Designing Café style meals
• Reflection and evaluation of practical and theory work
Year 10 MASTER CHEF (Exploring Food & Menus)
This course has an additional materials cost
Master Chef will introduce you to a range of menus, explore special ingredients and how they are prepared & presented. Students will discover the features of modern menus in the Hospitality Industry and how top Chef’s design menus for successful businesses. This course will offer valuable knowledge & skills for accomplished food preparation as well as forming a foundation for further food studies.
Assessment will include:
• Research & preparation of menus and meals from different restaurants, cafes, reception centres, & hotels.
• Developing skills and new knowledge to build an understanding of the Hospitality Industry and how they make food an exciting and wonderful sensory experience.
Year 10 VET AUTOMOTIVE
Program Length: 1 Semester (2½ Years for Full Certificate Completion)
Semester Course Overview & VCE / VCE-VM Pathway:
This course is the first Semester of a potential 2½ year course. To qualify for Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation at the end of Year 12 you need to have completed this subject.
Course Description:
Do you have an interest in cars, motorbikes or trucks? Automotive tradespeople are in demand. If you’re a young person looking for a career in mechanics or just have an interest in this area, this is the course for you. This course is a training pathway to gaining an apprenticeship in the automotive industry.
This hands-on training will teach you the skills you need to enter the vehicle repairs industry. The training will give you the knowledge to identify and inspect the mechanical and electrical components.
Assessed on:
• Working on cars and motors
• How engines work
• Using basic hand tools and equipment
• Changing wheels and tyres
• Basic vehicle maintenance
• Electrical repairs
• Drawing plans to make models
• Constructing models from metals
Equipment Requirements:
All students must have their own laptop and wear trade uniform to each and every class.
*Due to OH&S requirements heavy leather footwear must be worn at all times.
Year 10 VET ENGINEERING
Program Length: 1 Semester
Semester Course Overview & Pathway:
This course is the first Semester of a potential 2½ year course. To qualify for this Certificate at the end of Year 12 you need to have completed this subject in Year 10.
All students must have their own laptop and wear trade uniform to each and every class.
Engineering trains students to apply scientific knowledge to solve targeted, real-life problems. Engineers develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities and analytical capabilities, and they draw on curiosity and imagination to stay at the forefront of innovation.
Engineering remains a leading profession that meets the workforce needs of the future. The vital skills engineering students develop can better equip them for career changes and ultimately drive innovation.
Students will be assessed on:
• Joining of different materials, including welding and mechanical fixing methods,
• Reading & drawing plans, learning and applying drawing conventions,
• Use of a range of machinery that provide basic skills for future learning opportunities,
• Developing technical drawing skills using relevant CAD software,
• Introduction to 3D Printing,
• Use of a range of hand and power tools that provide basic skills for future learning opportunities,
• Production of models,
• Health & Safety in the workshop,
• Project assignments related to aspects and applications of engineering.
• End of Semester examination.
Health & Safety Regulations require all students to wear protective footwear and follow safe working procedures.
Year 10 VET BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION
(22614VIC - Certificate II in Building and Construction)
Program Length: 1 Semester
Semester Course Overview & Pathway:
This course is the first Semester of a potential 2½ year course. To qualify for this Certificate at the end of Year 12 you need to have completed this subject in Year 10.
All students must have their own laptop and wear trade uniform to each and every class.
Course Description:
This program option comprises a minimum of 19 units of competency over a 2 1/2 year period: nine compulsory units and a minimum of ten elective units in the carpentry stream. This will provide you with an opportunity to gain beginning level knowledge and skills required to manufacture a range of items including a cubby house at Year 12.
The completion of this course in a senior secondary environment has many benefits including:
• assisting you to decide if you are suited to a trade career;
• being the preferred pathway of many building and construction sector employers when employing apprentices to complete Certificate III qualifications, and providing useful skills for future domestic/D.I.Y building and construction projects
Year 10 (Units 1 & 2)
CPCCOM1014 - Conduct workplace communication
VU23320 - Identify and handle carpentry tools and equipment
Health & Safety Regulations require all students to wear protective footwear and follow safe working procedures.
YEAR 10 MULTIMEDIA
Program Length: 1 Semester
This subject will give you an insight on what is offered in the nationally recognised course Creative and Digital
Media offered as a VCE VET course in years 11 and 12.
In Multimedia you will learn:
• Photo editing
• 2D Animation
• Film creating and editing.
Industry standard programs that you will use:
• Adobe Photoshop, Animate and Premiere Pro.
