This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are competent in a range of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) roles, including animation, basic cloud computing, basic cyber awareness, digital media skills, generalist IT support services, networking, programming, systems and web development.
The Certificate III in Information Technology is offered as a two-year qualification. At Year 11, the first year of the IT course is offered, with students progressing to the second year of the course at Year 12. It is therefore a two-year commitment.
Students can then progress to higher-level qualifications (such as the Certificate IV in Information Technology or the Diploma of Information Technology) at TAFE, or University courses in Information Technology.

Year 2 (Units 3 & 4)
ICTICT313 Identify IP, ethics and privacy policies in ICT environments
ICTSAS312 Provide basic system administration
ICTSAS305 Provide ICT advice to clients
ICTSAS309 Maintain and repair ICT equipment and software
ICTSAS310 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network
Across the two years of the course students will learn about applying critical thinking skills, basic programming using Javascript and Python, working in a team, managing personal information, running standard tests as part of installing network protocols on a computer, maintaining equipment, learning about IP and ethics, providing advice to clients, and setting up a small office network.
Students will use desktop computers in the new IT lab to complete the networking units.
Software that will be used includes Javascript within Dreamweaver, Python, Virtual Box, and Windows operating systems.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Students will need to have the following equipment to participate in the subject. Failure to bring the required equipment will not allow students to participate in the course fully and put them at risk of not being able to meet the outcomes.
Laptop Computer:
A Laptop capable of running Microsoft 365 (Microsoft 365 is available to all Victorian Government School Students from the Department of Education)
