Year 10 is an important transition year where students become accustomed to life as a Senior School Student.
What does it mean to be a Senior School Student?
• Being part of a mature learning environment.
• Having an enthusiastic & responsible attitude to learning.
• Being respectful of the whole school environment
• Having access to the Study Centre and other Senior School facilities and programs.
• Wearing the Senior School uniform with pride.
• Being a positive role model
Our overall aim is to provide Year 10 students with a broad range of subjects so they can continue to explore their interests and educational pathways. The following section is a guide for students as they consider their options.
Please read all of the provided information carefully and please don’t hesitate to ask questions if you require any further clarification.
Roxburgh College is committed to providing Year 10 students with every opportunity to be successful while enjoying their experience at the Senior School level.
However, when you are choosing your Year 10 course, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
• Choose subjects that you are INTERESTED in
• Choose subjects you are GOOD at
• Choose a RANGE of different subjects so that you DON’T LIMIT YOUR COURSE CHOICES for your later VCE subject choices
• DISCUSS your options with your Parents and Teachers
• ASK FOR HELP if you are unsure about some subjects / areas.
• What are your FUTURE STUDY INTERESTS? Will the subjects you have chosen help you for the VCE or for your further studies?
IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA to do the following when you are choosing your subjects:
• Pick subjects because your friends have picked them. REMEMBER: Your interests must come first.
• Disregard a subject because you’ve heard that ‘it’s hard’ or ‘it’s boring’. Investigate for yourself.
• Pick subjects because you think they are ‘easy subjects’. Challenge yourself to learn something new, different or interesting.
