In Year 10 English you will evaluate how text structures can be used in innovative ways by different authors. You will explain how the choice of language features, images and vocabulary contributes to the development of individual style. You will develop and justify your own interpretations of texts. You will evaluate other interpretations, analysing the evidence used to support them.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) is for students who come from non-English speaking backgrounds and have been in the country seven years or less. Students will do EAL instead of mainstream English.
In Year 10, students will learn to respond critically and creatively to seen and new texts such as news articles, films, audio texts and novels by using academic vocabulary and correct genre structure.
Students will also write a point of view speech and present it using appropriate tone and language, taking into consideration the audience and context. Texts are carefully chosen to suit students’ needs and small group instruction provides opportunity for students to receive more support from the teacher
Master the elements of writing an effective narrative in preparation for VCE English. Learn to develop characters, dialogue and enhance your descriptive abilities. Learn to write in different genres and express your creative side through language. Create places and people and events, solve dilemmas, raise issues and improve your writing.
