Hospitality at Roxburgh College gives students the opportunity to earn an industry recognised Certificate II in Hospitality.
The VET program allows students to complete their VCE and a VET Certificate II in Hospitality simultaneously.
To achieve a certificate in Hospitality a number of Core and Elective modules must be completed sequentially.
Students will develop skills and knowledge and demonstrate competency in a range of theoretical and practical activities.
NB: Students will be required to complete SITFSA005 - Use hygienic practices for food safety, SITFAB021 - Provide responsible service of alcohol and SITFAB022 through an external RTO provider. Additional costs may be associated with these units.

Year 2 (Units 3 & 4)
Units 3 and 4 offer a specialization in Food and Beverage Service which take place in the professional environment of Roxburgh College McFarlane’s Restaurant and commercial kitchen facility. This enables students to develop competencies that are the equivalent to Hospitality Industry standards.
Study is undertaken in the areas of: Provide advice on food, Prepare and Serve Non- Alcoholic Beverages, Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee.

The Food and Beverage Strand provides a logical progression through the tasks and challenges that confront Hospitality professionals on a daily basis. Valuable, sought-after skills are acquired and developed through practical and encouraging course activities such as industry visits, hands-on sessions and work experience.
Course Requirements:
Students must achieve all units of competency and complete a minimum commitment of work placement. For recognition of two units in Year 12 and contribution to an ATAR calculation towards a student’s VCE, a two-hour examination is required.
All students are required to wear black leather safety shoes or boots.
Work Placement:
Work placement is a compulsory component of the Certificate II in Hospitality . Eighty hours of work placement is conducted using the McFarlane’s Cafe.
Assessment:
Assessment is ongoing throughout the two-year course and is conducted in line with the principles of workplace assessment and meeting all requirement of VCAA. A range of assessment tools are used, including building a portfolio.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Students will need to have the following equipment to participate in the subject. Failure to bring the required equipment will not allow students to participate in the course fully and put them at risk of not being able to meet the outcomes.
Laptop Computer:
A Laptop capable of running Microsoft 365 (Microsoft 365 is available to all Victorian Government School Students from the Department of Education)
