Course Description:
This program option comprises a minimum of 19 units of competency over a 2 1/2 year period: nine compulsory units and a minimum of ten elective units in the carpentry stream. This will provide you with an opportunity to gain beginning level knowledge and skills required to manufacture a range of items including a cubby house at Year 12.
The completion of this course in a senior secondary environment has many benefits including:
• assisting you to decide if you are suited to a trade career;
• being the preferred pathway of many building and construction sector employers when employing apprentices to complete Certificate III qualifications, and providing useful skills for future domestic/D.I.Y building and construction projects
Year 10 (Units 1 & 2)

VU23320 - Identify and handle carpentry tools and equipment
Year 11 (Units 1 & 2)
VU23313 - Interpret and apply basic plans and drawings
CPCCWHS2001 - Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
CPCCOM1015 - Carry out measurements and calculations
HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support
CPCCCM2006 - Apply basic levelling procedures
VU23321 - Perform basic setting out
VU23329 - Construct basic formwork for concreting
Year 12 (Units 3 & 4)
VU23322 - Construct basic sub-floor
VU23323 - Construct basic wall frames
VU23314 - Erect and safely use working platforms
VU23324 - Construct basic roof frame
VU23325 - Install basic external cladding
VU23326 - Install basic window and door frames
VU23327 - Install interior fixings
VU23328 - Dismantle basic timber structures
VU23312 - Prepare to work safely in the building and construction industry
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Students will need to have the following equipment to participate in the subject. Students will be excluded from class if they don't come in the required Personal Protective Equipment.
Laptop Computer:
A Laptop capable of running Microsoft 365 (Microsoft 365 is available to all Victorian Government School Students from the Department of Education)
Personal Protective School Uniform:
At minimum the students must wear the following in Trade Centre Classes:
