Visual Art & Design
For Year 10, a broad range of Visual Art & Design electives are offered.
These subjects enable students to:
• Undertake more specialised studies in individual arts forms.
• Develop creativity and engage in developmental processes
• Develop sophisticated technical skills.
• Develop sophisticated analytical skills.
Pathways to VCE studies in Art: Creative Practice, Photography and Visual Communication Design
Generally, studies in Visual Art & Design can lead to a range of vocational courses in multimedia, fine arts, fashion and design, and employment in the Art, Design and/or Media industry.
NB: Students may apply to undertake a Year 11 Visual Art & Design subject as a component of a Year 10 study program. In doing so students may be able to create greater flexibility in their Senior School program and will be able to complete additional VCE /VET Units.
Year 10 Art
In this subject students will explore a range of advanced techniques in painting, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture and will engage in creative developmental processes in order to develop innovative concepts and present finished works of art. Students will also engage with a range of artworks in order to develop effective analytical skills.

Year 10 Visual Communication Design
This subject will allow students to develop skills in environment, industrial and communication design and is a direct pathway into year 11 and 12 Units in ‘Visual Communication Design’.
Students will work to a ‘design brief’ and will produce a folio of work involving technical drawing. Students will also produce a ‘design folio’ with the use of various mediums and ICT skills.

Year 10 Ceramics
This Unit allows students to refine their skills and techniques and to work on a larger scale. The unit will suit students with basic and intermediate pottery skills. Students will have choices within a topic, which may include: Making tea pots and decorative platters. For most of the time, this is a hands-on unit, with some theory addressing analysis and arts writing.
Students will experience and learn to:
• Design and construct
• Plan and produce work on a bigger scale
• Paint and decorate
• Use and understand glazes
• Use the potters wheel
This subject is part of a specific pathway to ART: CP
Performing Arts
In year 10 students are able to select from 2 key Performing Arts areas: Music and Drama. These subjects enable students to:
• Undertake more specialised studies in specific performance areas.
• Further develop knowledge of performance and preparation.
• Develop sophisticated performance skills.
• Develop sophisticated analytical skills.
Year 10 Performing Arts electives comprise a general ‘pathway’ to VCE studies in Drama, VET Music Industry.
Generally, studies in Performing Arts can lead to a range of vocational courses in Peformance, Sound Production, Film & Television and Advertising and employment in the Arts and/or Media industry.
NB: Students may apply to undertake a Year 11 Performing Arts subject as a component of a Year 10 study program. In doing so students may be able to create greater flexibility in their Senior School program and will be able to complete additional VCE /VET Units.

Year 10 Music
VET MUSIC PERFORMANCE UNITS 1&2
VET MUSIC PERFORMANCE UNITS 1&2
Units 1 and 2 of VET Music Performance provide students with music industry knowledge, technical performance skills on their chosen instrument and practical knowledge of copyright and OH&S in the music industry. Completion of a Certificate III in Music prepares students for work in the music industry in areas such as performance, critical listening, music management and music promotions. This VCE/VET course is open to expressions of interest from year 10 students. See your Course Counsellor for more details.
Year 10 Drama
This unit is a preparatory unit for VCE Drama. The focus includes the study of performance styles including Epic Theatre, Theatre of Cruelty and Poor Theatre. You will develop your expressive skills to develop a range of characters and your performance skills to engage the audience. To demonstrate your knowledge, you will develop and perform an ensemble performance using conventions from various performance styles and evaluate a performance with consideration of productions areas, dramatic elements, and character portrayal. Get ready to improvise, create, role play and make meaningful Drama.
Year 10 Media - Film Making
Lights, Camera, ACTION! Step into the world of Media film making. In this subject you will unleash your inner director and create your very own films, as well as conduct practical experiments to show off your creativity. The unit will include watching and analysing films to discover what makes a film truly great. Media film making is a combination of practical work and theory. As you explore the art of storytelling, visual effects, sound design and editing you will unravel the magic behind the screen.
