Parallel Lines and Angles (7 Block Days)
Students will explore the classifications and properties of angles formed by intersecting lines. These relationships are critical to students' understanding Euclidean Geometry and it's applications in the real world.
Focus TEKS
G.2B Make conjectures about angles, lines, polygons, circles, and three-dimensional figures and determine the validity of conjectures, choosing from a variety of approaches such as coordinate, transformational or axiomatic (R)
G.7B use slopes and equations of lines to investigate geometric relationships, including parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and special segments of triangles and other polygons (R)
G.9A Formulate and test conjectures about the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines based on explorations and concrete models (S)
Students will know…
linear and angular relationships created by lines that are cut by a transversal
the validity of statements about angle pairs
the various types of angle pairs when two lines intersect
Students will be able to…
construct parallel lines using congruent corresponding angles
identify and name all the angle pair relationships
use logical reasoning to prove conjectures about angle pairs
use coordinate geometry to prove two lines are parallel
use properties of angle relationships to prove lines are parallel
use algebra to solve problems involving angle relationships
