ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the implementation and outcomes of utilizing a servant leadership approach in a corporate office or small business environment. Specifically, exploring how servant leaders maintain control and authority in a group while still preserving humility. Oftentimes, a leader is torn between being a compassionate boss and having their decisions followed. If a leader is seen humbling themselves to their followers, it is possible that they can be viewed as weak and, therefore, not respected. However, recent research supports that successful leadership is accomplished when a leader is able to maintain a balance between humility and authority. The body of this research focuses on analyzing historic examples of people who displayed servant leadership while still being successful leaders as well as a structural breakdown of the team dynamics, which a servant leader creates. The implications of this research can be applied to modern businesses and can improve the productivity and job performance of team members.
