ABSTRACT
Spending too much time on social media can cause an unhealthy addiction. Being addicted to social media can cause users to have a negative outlook on their self-worth. This study investigated the relationship of social media use, potential addiction to social media, and one’s outlook of self-worth to see if there was a connection between an addiction to social media and feelings of low self-worth. Determining the user’s perception of addiction to social media and how social media made them feel was measured using a 10-question questionnaire focusing on the participants perception on their own social media addiction, how many hours they use social media for, and how it made them feel. The results confirmed that there was a slight positive correlation between addiction to social media and negative feelings of self-worth. The secondary hypothesis also showed that users who stated they did not use social media as much felt like social media had no negative impact on their self-worth.
