Abstract
Early Childhood teachers are responsible for educating young children within a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment. Education styles and teaching methods have continued to improve over the years based on the needs of children and information they need to learn, but the classroom seating system has remained the same. The generic stationary desk and chair combination has been used in classrooms since the first U.S. public school The Boston Latin School, established in 1635 (Caryl-Sue, 2013). Children learn best when they are comfortable and able to move around, so having them comfortable enough to give their teacher their full uninterrupted attention should be a higher priority. Grant funds will meet the goal of providing comfortable, easy to move, seating for young children. Children are expected to sit and pay attention for a large portion of their day, yet they get easily distracted when they are uncomfortable. Lightweight, cushioned chairs that children can move by themselves allows freedom to sit where they choose during instruction, select which portion of the table they would like to work at, and have a comfortable seat at circle time. These chairs are beneficial for classrooms of young children because they will be used at various times throughout the day, they help children relax which allows them to focus on the teacher and their lessons, and they support posture since the children will not be slouching or hunched over.
