ABSTRACT
It is critically important to provide gross motor activities to young children as it not only benefits the development of physical skills, but it also aids in the development of other equally important skills. With the use of indoor and outdoor gross motor materials, children will enhance their coordination skills. They will also build on their language, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills through play. Little Learners Chutes and Ladders Grant Proposal seeks to provide proper gross motor materials and activities to all children enrolled. Grant funds will support the children’s need for physical activity, as well as enhance other key developmental skills with materials such as a playscape equipped with a slide and swings, climbers, and scooters. Teachers observed that children who had missed out on gross motor activities due to inclement weather were more likely to be fidgety or overly active and less likely to focus on their work. Teachers also noticed a lack of physically engaging equipment on the playground. The grant funding for indoor and outdoor equipment will help cultivate needed skills for children’s appropriate development.
