ABSTRACT
“Impact on Student Learning for 3rd Grade Mathematics” by Lily Cochenour shows how she used various differentiation strategies and pedagogy to help students at all different levels mathematically. Each student reaches a goal to understand the lesson outcomes that are being taught. The project began with a pre-test to assess the current level of math understanding, after being taught virtually during the time of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This assessment tested the students on topics such as telling time on an analog clock, doing addition and subtraction with 2-digit numbers, creating and analyzing bar graphs, and number stories using addition and subtraction. Using the data that was collected from the assessments, she determined what additional strategies should be used along with the McGraw Hill Everyday Mathematics teacher guide. During the instruction there were varying forms of formative assessments to measure student progress. At the end of the unit, a written assessment was used to identify the difference between pre-assessment and post-assessment. The post-test scores showed that the strategies and lessons she taught had a positive impact on student learning for all students.
