ABSTRACT

Sex education and unplanned teen pregnancy have both been around for a long time. The lack of sex education in adolescents could be linked to the absence of sexual knowledge and could lead to larger amount of teen pregnancies. Previous research has been done to look at sex education in relation to unplanned teen pregnancy including various types of sex education, where/who sex education is coming from, driving forces for sexual behavior, ways to improve sex education, parental role, and sexual empowerment. The purpose of this study is to discover if lack or style of sex education has an influence on teenage girls becoming pregnant. This study investigated the relationship between sex education and teenage pregnancy by collecting information in the form of an online survey from fifty eight female participants regarding their teenage perception and knowledge of sex. Results showed a positive correlation and confirmed the hypothesis that women who were pregnant as teenagers believe that more sexual education would have prevented their teen pregnancy. They also confirmed that women who were pregnant as teenagers received minimal sexual education.
