There are some important ELEMENTS that all games contain that make them fun to play. We're going to consider these ones for your game:
Game play: A game’s rules, plot, objectives, and challenges. In other words what your game is all about.
Game mechanics: How a game works and how a player interacts with it (the controls).
Game art: The scenes and characters - in Scratch called sprites and backdrops
Sound design: A game's background music and sound effects
Scoring: How a player scores and how it is displayed
Challenge: How the game increases in difficulty -making the game harder as it progresses, and how the player can win.

To get started, we'll all create this same simple game. Simply follow along with the tutorial to create a side scrolling (objects moving from one side of the screen to the other) jumping game.
Once this basic version is finished, we'll explore how we can improve the game's elements even further.
Now you have some basic skills in Scratch, it's time to have a go at creating an original game of your very own. You could base it on one of the ones you've already made in Scratch or try and create something new.
Think about the 6 different elements we spoke about already when designing your game.
Your game must include all 6 of these elements.
Fill in the game design document to record your ideas. I've shared it through Classroom
Once this is complete and I've checked it, it's time to get creating!!
You don't have to stick with the sprites Scratch came with. Here's how to add others:
For simple sprites
Go to Icon Archive or similar
You want to find small images. Click on the one you want and choose Download
To import intro Scratch, just hover over the Sprite selector and choose the top option - Upload Sprite
For sprites you want to animate:
Spriters Resource is amazing for importing Sprite Sheets
Make sure your sheet is PNG with a transparent background
Download the one you want
To import intro Scratch, just hover over the Sprite and choose the top option - Upload Sprite
Use the select tool to take the first sprite. Move it over to the side
Now use the select tool and select all the others. Press delete
Drag the sprite onto the little cross in the middle. It will click into place
Repeat the Import process until you have all the sprites you want. Change the names to make it easy to change
To import sounds:
Go to Pixabay sound effects or similar
Download the sound you want
To import into Scratch, click the Sounds tab then, hover over Choose a sound and choose the top option - Upload
Find your downloaded sound and it's in!
To import backgrounds:
Search online for an image you want for the background.
Right click and choose "save image as". Note, only PNG and JPG images will work.
To import into Scratch, hover over Backdrops and choose the top option - upload
The image may not fill the screen correctly. If you want it perfect, use the Photos app to resize and crop it to 480 x 360 pixels then save it.
