Scratch is the world’s largest coding community for children and a coding language with a simple visual interface that allows young people to create digital stories, games, and animations.
Millions of people are creating Scratch projects in a wide variety of settings, including homes, schools, museums, libraries, and community centers.
To get started, go to the official Scratch website here:
You may already have a Scratch account. If so, just click Sign in
If you don't you'll want to click the Join button or click this link:
Joining takes a bit of time but means that all your projects will be saved and available wherever you are
Watch and follow this first to get to know a bit about Scratch and how it works.
You'll need to follow along so after you click on the video, click the YouTube logo. This will open it in a new tab then you can easily switch between Scratch and YouTube.
Now it's time to learn more of the skills you'll need.
To get started click on the Ideas menu
This screen will appear:
Now just click on Getting started.
Now you have these skills, start exploring some of the other tutorials. Have a go at something from each of the project types. Try:
Animation
Art
Music
Games
Stories
Just click on the Ideas menu then choose something from each type.
