Welcome to Year 12 and 13 Digital Technologies. Now you have a good understanding of many areas of digital technology, Years 12 and 13 give you the opportunity to specialise in a component of digital technologies and lead your own project to develop a digital outcome of your choice.
You'll find links below and in the navigation that take you to our different courses.
Building a professional digital project is about more than just writing code or making a graphic; it’s about solving problems through a repeatable, high-quality cycle. In Years 12 and 13, you follow the Digital Technologies Development Process to move from a vague idea to a polished, "awesome" product.
This process isn't just for school—it mirrors how modern tech and media giants like Atlassian, Canva, and Xero build the apps and media you use every day. By mastering this workflow, you aren't just a student; you're a developer.
We'll go through the Digital Technologies Development Process next...
In the world of Digital Technologies, we use the term "Digital Outcome" instead of just "project" or "assignment"
Essentially, a digital outcome is a purpose-built digital solution created using digital tools to meet a specific need or solve a problem. In other words, making something digital that is a complete product.
It isn't just a file on a computer; it is a functional product designed for real users.

This plan gives you an idea of what we are learning and when, as well as the assessments you will complete as part of this learning.
You can find out more about each learning programme below.
Welcome to your first digital media project! The goal of this activity is to learn the basics, have a go at creating something, and see if you enjoy working with digital media. You don’t need to worry about perfection—this is just a starting point. Later, in your main project, you will have the chance to refine your skills and develop something more polished.
In this course, you will learn the steps to create a digital media product of your choice. You can choose from the following options:
Video Game
Short Film
Clothing Logo or Graphic Design
Digital Artwork
Music Production
This guide will explain the general development process, then provide step-by-step instructions for each media type.
This learning and assessment involves conducting an inquiry to propose a digital technologies outcome. Students decide on an inquiry focus and develop inquiry questions. Relevant research is undertaken to gather user and background information and ideas, which are then analysed. Students present a concise summary of their findings. From this, students develop a detailed proposal of a digital outcome related to the inquiry.
This standard assesses your ability to apply design conventions in developing a digital media outcome. You will identify the purpose and end-user needs, research relevant conventions and implications, and generate design ideas.
Through modeling, testing, and trialling (feedback), you will refine your design to ensure usability, aesthetics, and functionality.
By the end, you will produce a well-considered, informed, and refined digital media design that demonstrates your understanding of conventions, implications, and user-centered design principles.
You will describe, explain, and justify your design decisions.
In this major self-led project you will develop your own original digital technologies outcome to meet a problem, need, or opportunity. Hopefully based on your inquiry, this can be a short film, graphic design, game, digital artwork project, or more - basically anything you can create digitally. You will work through the stages required that take you from your first identified need right through to a quality digital outcome, using research, design conventions, processes, and complex tools and techniques on the way.
