Before touching the computer, you need a plan! A great webpage starts with knowing who you're talking to and what you want them to do.
Everything we create in DigiTech needs to have a purpose and be for someone.
Here's what to think about:
Purpose
What are the main things you want this website to do? (Example: To inform new players about the game's rules and encourage them to download it.)
The purpose of my webpage is to...
Example: "The purpose of my webpage is to get more people excited about skateboarding, especially street skating and learning tricks, not just cruising around. I will show kids that tricks like the ollie aren't that scary and provide simple tips to help them land it. The main goal is to be the coolest place for beginner street skaters to find motivation."
Audience (end users)
Who are the primary group of people who will read your website? (Example: People who haven't played the game before, or fans of the band.)
The users of my webpage will be...
Example: "The users of my webpage will be other kids aged 12-16 who have a skateboard but feel nervous or don't know where to start learning actual tricks outside of the skate park.."
Requirements are the necessary things you must include to achieve your website's purpose.
They provide a great checklist for what needs to be included.
Here is a typical requirement list for a simple webpage:
A Title/Header (The name of your interest/topic).
The Main Hook (A quick, catchy line about what it is).
Main Image or Video (The main media that represents your interest).
Description / Details (The body text explaining the topic).
A Call-to-Action (A button or link, like "Watch the Trailer" or "Buy the Album").
A common colour scheme (What colours and where)
Here's an example:
The Title needs to be really loud and catchy, like "SKATE & SEND IT!" at the very top.
The Main Hook will be the line "Your First Ollie Is Closer Than You Think," and it has to be placed below the title so people see it instantly.
One Main Image must be a high-res photo of a skater ollieing over a small obstacle, making it look super professional and awesome.
One Embedded Video must be a short, clear YouTube tutorial video on 'How to Ollie for Beginners,' since this is the main teaching element of the site.
Description / Details will use short, easy-to-read paragraphs explaining the three basic steps for the ollie (Pop, Slide, Land), and I will use bold text to highlight those steps.
A Call-to-Action will be a bright button saying POP IT! that links directly to the embedded video for people to click.
A Common Colour Scheme will use black and white for the background and text (high contrast!), but my button and main hook will use a bright neon green/slime colour to make them pop.
