Welcome to Year 11 Digital Technologies.
Year 11 begins a deep journey into the world of Digital technologies that will see you become an informed user, and innovative creator, of technology.
As you study, you will develop computational thinking skills, and the ability to design and develop digital outcomes. You will learn how computers represent and process data and develop an understanding of how data can be organised.
You will learn about the digital design and development processes used to create, test, and evaluate digital outcomes. You will learn to prioritise users in the outcomes you develop, and understand how Digital Technologies outcomes impact on the people who use them.
Finally, you will learn fundamental principles and concepts that existing and emerging technologies are built on.
There are 4 Digital Technologies Achievement Standards for NCEA Level 1. The content of all of these Standards are taught. However they may not all be assessed.
The links below take you there.
Assessed internally (through coursework)
92004 - Create a computer program
92005 - Develop a digital technologies outcome
Assessed externally (through an 'exam')
92006 - Demonstrate understanding of usability in human-computer interfaces
92007 - Design a digital technologies outcome
We also sometimes use Unit Standards to support specific students or courses.
You'll find links below and in the navigation to our different courses. The NCEA Standards are taught through these courses.
Welcome to your first digital media project! The goal of this activity is to learn the basics, have a go at creating something, and see if you enjoy working with digital media. You don’t need to worry about perfection—this is just a starting point. Later, in your main project, you will have the chance to refine your skills and develop something more polished.
In this course, you will learn the steps to create a digital media product of your choice. You can choose from the following options:
Video Game
Short Film
Clothing Logo or Graphic Design
Digital Artwork
Music Production
This guide will explain the general development process, then provide step-by-step instructions for each media type.
A digital technologies outcome is something that is developed using digital tools or techniques. It may be wholly digital, i.e. we can only view or use it on a screen, or could be partly physical, i.e. we develop it on a screen but it is something we can see, hear, or touch.
In this course you'll go through the first half of the Design Thinking Process to create ideas then designs your own original digital technologies outcome.
Following on from the Design course, in this course you'll go through the second half of the Design Thinking Process to develop your digital outcome and to evaluate its fitness for purpose.
Not a course in itself but rather a link to a huge range of sources you can use to help learn the knowledge and skills that will help you to develop your our Digital technologies Outcome.
Python is a powerful coding language that developers love to use. It's easy to write and understand.
You’ll learn all the basic skills to create a range of simple programs. You’ll then use this knowledge to create and thoroughly test your own Python program in an assessment task.
