NPA Criminology at SCQF Level 5 (S5 & S6 Only)


Course Outline


Criminology is the scientific study of crime, including its causes, responses by the criminal justice system, and methods of prevention.  It is one of the fastest growing academic subjects in Scotland and the UK. 


This National Progression Award (NPA) is designed to introduce learners - at SCQF Level 5 - to various areas relating to the current trends and impacts of crime and justice on modern society.


Entry Level Recommended

Pupils should be in S5/S6 and should have Nat 5 English and have a keen interest in the subject 


Course Content


Progression 

In combination with relevant school qualification learners have the opportunity to progress to an NPA at Level 6 and then PDAs at 

SCQF levels 7 and 8. 


This award may also lead to employment in a related field of work. Learners will gain practical skills required by employers, as well as opening the door to opportunities existing in roles in business, finance, the commercial or public sector and the Police. Learners will gain skills such as communication, time management and the ability to work with others, which are fundamental to employment prospects.
