Human Body Structure and Function at SCQF Level 8

Course Outline
Human Body Structure and Function SCQF Level 8 units offers you the opportunity to extend your knowledge and develop an understanding of selected body systems and how the human body co-ordinates these systems to maintain homeostasis. In studying these systems, you will also discover what happens when things go wrong, covering conditions as diverse as hyperthyroidism, gigantism and coronary heart disease.
Entry Requirements
This course is only available to students in S6.
You must have achieved Biology or Human Biology Higher or be working towards Advanced Higher
You should have a genuine interest in human anatomy & physiology
Course Content
This course covers topics including:
Structure & function of the skeletal system
Function of the blood and heart
Structure and function of respiratory system
Structure and function of urinary system
Structure and function of digestive system
Hormonal and electrical signalling
Practical laboratory experiments

Progression
The course is an ideal steppingstone between secondary education and university programmes in medicine and dentistry, as well as to biology based degree routes. Data handling, problem solving, and experimental techniques are all developed alongside expanding your knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Interview
There are no interviews. Students need to hold the relevant entry requirements.
Location
This course takes place on the Paisley Campus of West College Scotland.
Students will receive free transport to and from the Paisley Campus.
