This assignment is an example of a Journal Log we were asked to complete for our AP English Literature and Composition Class. We were just beginning to read the book Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward. After reading each chapter we were tasked with writing down two quotes from the book with quotation. For each quote, we wrote "What does it mean" and an explanation for choosing the specific quote. I have chosen this assignment in specific to portray one of my glow assignments. I have chosen this assignment in specific because I was successful in completing all the work on time and in an effective manner. In the past, I found myself struggling with reading books and actually understanding and putting all my focus on the book. However, I made it my goal to be fully immersed and open minded when reading books. In doing this, I was able to understand the characters and certain literary techniques which the author used to portray their message. I became fully immersed within the book and was not only getting the work done but passionately writing on the specific quotes which I intentionally picked form the book. For this reason, I have chosen this assignment to be displayed as a glow assignment for this marking period.
This assignment is an example of a writing task we were asked to complete for our AP English Literature and Composition Class. In this assignment, we were tasked with creating a letter from the perspective of the author in response to a fellow reader who questioned the ending of their short story, "The Lifeguard". "The Lifeguard" was a very unique and interesting story with a plot twist at the end. However, despite normal short stories, the ending was very controversial in why the main character acted in the way they did. For this reason, we wrote through our own perspective what we believe happened in the ending. I wrote about the main character's attitude and character being who he is because of the loss of a loved one. Furthermore, I have chosen this assignment as a grow assignment. I was able to get a perfect score on this assignment. However, despite getting a perfect score, I found myself struggling when writing this short story. We had a time limit and I found myself not being able to quickly gather the evidence I needed to in order to defend why the ending ended the way it did. In addition to overall not being able to understand the characters intentions throughout the story because of lack of annotation beforehand. For this reason, I will work towards my ability to gather the most effective and important evidence/information to back up the argument.
