Heat Sources
Heat Sources and Electronics
These are the official rules for heaters, as outlined by the Shadow Accord Safety team and Executive Officers in accordance with the rules of Sound View Camp and its owners.
Electric Heaters
Electric heaters are only allowed in main buildings and those outfitted with full electricity; this includes the Tipsy Chicken, Golden Horn, Rose, and the three cabins in Old Town. Electric heaters must have an automatic tip-over safety shutoff. Electric heaters should be plugged directly into the wall outlet.
If an extension cord is necessary, use the shortest possible heavy-duty cord of 14-gauge wire or larger. Always check and follow any manufacturer’s instructions pertaining to the use of extension cords.
Keep the area around the heater clear and away from doorways.
Propane Heaters
Propane heaters are only allowed in the almshouses, chalets, and where full electrical is not installed. Propane heaters must have the following safety features: an automatic low oxygen shutoff system and an accidental tip-over safety shutoff.
Large propane tanks should always be kept outside and hooked to the heating element with a long hose. Smaller propane tanks can be attached directly to heaters and kept inside.
Keep the area around the heater clear and away from doorways.
Fires
Only players approved by a Safety team member and an Executive Officer may start fires.
To be approved for a fire you must:
Email both the XOs and Safety team at least two weeks before game at sa.safety@nwlarpers.org and sa.executiveofficers@nwlarpers.org. The deadline for approval is two weeks before game; exceptions are at the discretion of the XOs and Safety team.
Bring to site two buckets (one for sand and one for water) or one fire extinguisher.
Once you have been approved for a fire:
You are the person responsible for the starting, maintaining, and extinguishing of fires. This responsibility cannot be passed to another person without prior approval (see below).
Only persons who have also been approved by the XOs and Safety Team may take the responsibility for your fire from you.
If you must leave the fire area, the fire must be extinguished completely before doing so.
A fire may only be started in a designated and approved area at site. No portable fire pits are allowed.
The person who has permission from the XOs and Safety team to have a fire must stay present with the fire for as long as it is burning.
In addition to this, the person who has permission from the XOs and Safety team to have a fire must explain and enforce the No Combat Rules listed below:
No Combat Rules
There is to be no combat around active fires.
The area around a live fire is to be treated as an RP-only area, where only powers that rely on touch, roleplay, and sensory deliveries may be used.
All physical combat must move away at least 10 feet.
If combat breaks out in an area where there is a fire then a stand down will be called until the area is safely cleared.
If combat has started outside of the “no fighting zone” then a player cannot flee to the “no fighting zone” in order to obtain safety.
Electronics
Do not leave anything plugged in and unattended. Electronics should only be plugged in if they are actively being used (this includes cellular devices). Heaters may be plugged in and left on only if people are in the room (sleeping is allowed), but they should be unplugged if no one is in the building.
