Safety

Responsibilities

Safety is responsible for the safety of Shadow Accord players and staff. They assess possible safety issues and ensure there are adequate medical kits and supplies in case of emergency. They also make sure there is at least one person who is CPR- and first aid-certified at each Shadow Accord game.

Weather

The camp where Shadow Accord is held, Sound View Camp, has weather that ranges from sunny and over 80ºF to heavy rain, to 20ºF with snow. Safety team usually posts a weather forecast for the weekend of game in their pregame announcements. Please remember to pack plenty of sunblock, changes of socks, warm changes of clothes, and water-resistant coverings in order to have the safest game. Hypothermia and sunstroke can strike even at LARPs.

Sometimes extreme weather will hit. When that happens, the site itself and/or Safety team, working with the Executive Officers, will decide if game will take place. If game is cancelled due to weather, anyone who has prepaid will have their payments rolled over to the next game.

Medical Accommodations

If you would like to voluntarily submit any medical accommodations, medications, or concerns that you may have while attending an official game event at Shadow Accord, please fill out the medical accommodations form.

This form is also used to submit any information you believe we should know in case of an emergency. This is for Safety and staff use only and is completely voluntary. This will not affect player-to-player interactions in any way.

Filling out this form does not guarantee requests are fulfilled, as we have finite resources, but we will do our best to take care of you.

Safety Staff Notices

All Safety members are listed on notices posted in each public bathroom on the mirrors. These notices are meant to give you faces to put to names and characters, so that if an emergency arises  we can be easier to find. Each team member also wears a salmon-colored armband or belt favor at all times during game. If you need help, please make an OOG sign (two fingers crossed or weapon held over your head) and ask for a team member or where one can be found.

Emergency Situations

In an emergency situation, Safety members will always do the best that we can to provide for you. We will always defer to emergency response teams and their judgement.

Those with allergies or with serious medical conditions are encouraged by Safety to have at least one buddy who knows how to treat them if something serious happens. We also encourage you to carry any medication you will need in an emergency safely on your person.

Food Worker Card

Sound View Camp requires that any person who utilizes their kitchen facilities has an up to date Washington state Food Worker Card. Safety team keeps an updated list of players with active Food Worker Cards to uphold this requirement. Players who work as staff at any location that serves food must have a Food Worker Card.

This card can be acquired online through the Washington State Food Worker Course and costs about $15. For more information on the Food Worker Card, please visit the Washington State Department of Health.

Please email Safety with proof of your Food Worker Card if you would like to be added to the list.
