At Shadow Accord, the term "Lore" represents canon information and knowledge that a PC can start game with.
Lore for your own faction and specific subfaction are free; access to other Lores may be purchased at character creation only. Buying additional Lores unlocks that subfaction's powers as learned powers. Any information outside of a PC's starting Lores may only be learned through IG roleplay.
Lores represent the basic information about a PC's faction that can be learned off-screen. CGs will help determine if you have the roleplay/story to back these Lores.
While Lores represent everything your character can know, they do not necessarily represent everything your character should know. CGs can also help you to understand these limits. For example, most Lore lists have access to a host of setting and location books that may not be relevant to every character. Just because their Lore provides access to “Constantinople by Night” doesn’t mean that a PC who was born in and lived their entire life in France should know anything from that book.
Also, while Lores represent things your character can know but not things they must know. It’s perfectly fine for a character to only partially understand the information available from their Lores, or even have a misunderstanding. You are always free to not know something that is in your Lores at character creation. For example, you may purchase Lasombra lore for a new Brujah character, so that you can then purchase Obtenebration at character creation. Your story for this might be that before entering game, your character enacted amaranth on an Lasombra. In that example, it would be necessary for your character to have Lasombra Lore but the PC would likely not know any of the information provided by those books.
The Lore lists are mostly broken up into lists of World of Darkness books. If only part of a book is included in a Lore, it will be called out. Otherwise the entire book is available. Of course, in any book, only Dark Ages-appropriate information should be referenced IG.
The books here are the only Lore sources from which players can pull from in order to roleplay, both in establishing the backstory of their character and in playing the character. Please keep in mind that the information in these books can be usurped by current Shadow Accord canon as established by the STs.
Each section highlights the primary book(s) that should always be referenced by players within that faction; specific books in the tables can be referenced for additional information as applicable. CGs can help clarify which books you should reference if needed.
