Learning Goal: Students will be learning about how to stay on topic when writing

Brainstorm ideas

1. Choose a topic

2. Brainstorm ideas (Brainstorming means writing down everything that comes through your mind. It is a quick way to get many ideas.

3. After brainstorming, think about the topic and each idea.

4. Read each idea and decide if it is connected to the topic.

5. Once you cross out the ideas that don’t connect to the topic, then start writing about the topic

6. Revise your topic by giving it to a friend to edit for you.

7. Be an Active listener: Partners; one chooses one of the stories read in class to reread it to his/her partner while the other person tries to listen and ask questions as the partner is reading.

Homework-Choose another topic than the one you chose in class and do the same thing. I need to see the brainstorming ideas and the final written part.
