Artist Statement:
Inspired by the vibrant artworks of Romero Britto, I created this artwork to express hope and unity during this global Covid19 pandemic. The shapes in the background are filled with different patterns to show that although we are all different, we can overcome everything if we stay united as one!
Nicolette employed a great variety of lines, patterns and colours in this artwork. Instead of using flat colours in the style of Romero Britto, Nicolette created colour gradation by using oil pastels, giving her artwork even more visual interest and dimension. - Mrs Michelle Goh

💡 Artist Reference
Born in Brazil, Britto lived and grew up among a big family of eight brothers and sisters. However, his innate creativity allowed Britto to fill his life with images of a bigger and more beautiful world beyond his own at an early age, he painted what he saw and what he imagined on surfaces such as newspapers, cardboard or any scraps that he could find. In 1983, Britto went to Paris, France where he was introduced to the works of Matisse and Picasso, Britto was encouraged to travel to the United States where Pop Art was flourishing.
