Artist Statement:
Reality and Fiction are grey areas that I mostly feel in my classroom. In my work, I wanted to blur the boundaries of reality and fiction especially with the use of social media. As a student leader myself, I struggled to identify genuine friendships. I might have multiple followers, however behind the screen, I truly interact with only a few friends. My generation of youngsters live in a day and age where human relationships no longer stem mainly from physical interactions. Our interactions have become heavily dependent on digital platforms. The juxtaposition of multiple interactions in digital interfaces aim to highlight the use of social media that inflicted surreal friendships. Does social media define our social status? How do we distinguish 'real' from 'fake' friendships?
Celine is a thoughtful student artist. She has strong individualistic views about social matters and contemporary issues. Celine has been very passionate about Art and displayed focus and interest in every art lesson since Secondary One. Her strength is two-dimensional emotive and conceptual art forms - sketching, juxtaposition of ideas and narrative visuals. - Ms Desiree Tham
