TRADITIONAL FOLK CRAFTS
💡 Artists Reference: Chng Seok Tin (1946 to 2019)
Chng Seok Tin was a visually-impaired printmaker, sculptor and multi-media artist from Singapore. Her work has been shown internationally; Chng had over 26 solo shows and 100 group shows.[4] In addition to her art, she was also a prolific writer and has published 11 collections of her writing, mostly in Chinese.[5] She also advocated for artists with disabilities.[6]
Chng Seok Tin was a simple lady with a pure love for art. Some of her works look like simple collage combined with sculpture and/or printmaking (collagraph printing). They do, however, reflect deeply on life and inspires the viewer. Even with a highly-impaired vision, she never gave up on art-making.
Seok Tin was a very active exhibitionist and educator in Singapore. She is one unique local artist who successfully embedded her vision, life experiences (multitude of adversities in her own life) as well as love for traditional printmaking methods into her artworks. Many art teachers in Singapore had been her students and/or attended her workshops.
