Artist Statement: My artwork depicts a portrait of my favourite fruit, an apple. The grid is made up of intersecting lines that helps to organise the space and colours. Each square is part of the overall portrait yet it stands alone as an interesting design.

During the art-making process, Faiz explored the principles of form and proportion using the grid technique. His artwork which showcases his individuality was enhanced through his choice of colours and expressive line design. Chuck Close (1940-2021)

Chuck Close is known for his innovative conceptual gridded portraiture, depicting his subjects, which are transposed from photographic realism into gridded paintings that appear abstract from close-up yet realistic and pixelated from afar.

He is said to have 'pioneered Photorealism', playing with ideas of colour, scale and form. His mediums included a variety of drawing and painting techniques such as ink, graphite, pastel, watercolor, conté crayon, finger painting, and stamp-pad ink on paper, also, printmaking techniques such as Mezzotint, etching, woodcuts, linocuts, and silkscreens.
